Peter's Voice began without it's current name when Rick Fahey and Dick Vangelder brought praise music to the family worship service at St. Peter's Episcopal Church in Salisbury, Maryland and entertained at area Nursing Homes. The duo was later joined by Art Johnstone, Shannon Donoway, and Rick's son Sean. They chose the name 'Peter's Voice' as a reference to their church and the musical voice they have in the community. The group was later joined by Steve Rumney, Heidi Csallner and Brittany Spicer. The group has also been blessed with several talented but temporary keyboard players over the years, particularly Sheila Harleston who played on the 'Pelican Moment' CD and Nancy Walton on the 'Bricks Upon the Sand' CD.
In 1999 the group took their music outside the church and has given numerous performances in Maryland, Delaware, Virginia, Michigan, and New York. In addition to providing the regular Sunday Worship service music at St. Peter's Church, Peter's Voice performs at a variety of nursing and retirement homes, at churches and at a variety of larger format events. They have played in concert with country singer Jamie O'Neal and Johnny Neal of the Allman Brothers band, at the Chautauqua Institute in New York and as part of a large 9/11 Remembrance event with Inspirational Speaker Tony Campollo.
Peter's Voice released the 'Pelican Moment' CD in 2000 followed by 'Bricks Upon the Sand' CD in 2003. In 2004 they released 'David's Song' a single in memory of David Larmore. Peter's Voice is working on a 3rd CD 'Keepers of the Flame' which they hope to release in 2005.
The Sound
The Peter's Voice sound is best described as eclectic and their musical styles are purposely varied to pull from the wide variety of backgrounds of the members. Styles in the Peter's Voice CDs include folk, rock, Latin, and swing. All Peter's Voice CDs have 12 songs to represent the 12 Apostles of Christ and include a hidden track to explain some aspect of the CD. Although the group is very serious about their music, their CDs, and particularly their concerts, include many light hearted moments since their main goal is to get the audience to enjoy and have fun with the music while praising the Lord.
